CATERING

Moroccan food is not like any other. We use a lot of spices and every meal is a banquet. In the house we start the day with a good breakfast, because you will need a good basis for a long surfday. The breakfast includes some nice fruits,

Moroccan breads, fresh shakes and a omelette or a pancake After the first surfsession we have our warm lunch on the beach. Everyday something else. From a Tagine to a cold pasta salad. Back home after a long beachday, we relax with some typical Moroccan tea and cookies and watch the beautiful sunset on the rooftop of the house.

In the mean time the dinner will be cooked. If it is ready you can enjoy a delicious Moroccan meal and eat it in the traditionel way (all from the same plate). If you are a vegatarien there will be a vegetarian meal for you. One night there will be a barbecue with some fresh fish. After dinner there is a nice dessert with a fire to keep us warm.

Surf School program
The team will make the car ready, with the surfboards on the roof. When we are on the road, we choose the perfect surfspot for the day. Sometimes it will be the beach in front of the house and sometimes we need to drive further to find the perfect waves.

Arrived at the beach, we start with our warm-up and stretching. After that, the teachers will explain you something about surfing. You will practice in the sand how to stand up and have the perfect position on your board. If that’s going well, you are ready to surf the real waves.

You get two hours of surf lessons, in which the teacher will push you in the wave and give you useful tips.

You will learn how to recognize the best waves, how to paddle and, best for last, to ride the wave. In the mean time the team will make some pictures of the surfing.

Back in the house we will analyze your position on the surfboard. When the first surf session is finished, the warm lunch is ready to be eaten. You can enjoy your lunch in the sun and relax on the beach.

Before we leave you can have your last surf session. It is a free surf but the teachers will still give you some tips. Around four we start packing to leave the beach. Time to go home!

Beach towel, pen (for arrival/departure form at passport control), swimsuit, sunscreen (we recommend 30+, better is 50 for surfing), sunglasses, flip flops, beach bag, plastic bag (for transport of your wet wetsuit), something warm to wear at night or after surf in the beach (especially in winter time).

WHERE IS PRO SURF MOROCCO?

Pro Surf Morocco is based in the north of Agadir in the towns of Aourir and Tamraght. We are 15km from the city of Agadir, and it’s a 45 min drive from Agadir Al Massira international airport. Agadir Airport is a short flight (2-4 hours) from most European cities.

DO I NEED A VISA?

EU, US, Australian and New Zealand passport holders with a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date do not require a visa to enter Morocco for tourist purposes. If you hold a passport from outside the EU we strongly recommend that you check with your nearest Moroccan Embassy.

WHAT ABOUT CUSTOMS/PASSPORT CONTROL?

When you enter and leave, you will need to fill out a form with basic information (your name, birth date, your occupation and some passport details).
Please find your address in Morocco in your Pro Surf Morocco booking confirmation.

WHICH LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN IN MOROCCO?

The official language in Morocco is Arabic, but the majority of Moroccans also speak French. In small villages the local Berber population speaks Tamazight as well. In tourist areas the majority of Moroccans speak a good level of English too. Our staff members speak Arabic, English, French, German and Tamazight.

HOW CAN I PAY?

We prefer if guests pay their deposit via PayPal. To pay the balance we prefer it in cash while our guests are in Morocco.

CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN?

Children of all ages are welcome but we do not have specialized childcare facilities.

WHAT IS THE CURRENCY? WHERE CAN I GET IT?

The Moroccan currency is the Dirham. Exchange rates are around 11/€.
Moroccan Dirhams are not always offered at exchange counters outside of Morocco, and the exchange rate is better if you wait until you arrive in Morocco. You will find exchange facilities and ATMs in the airport. There are also plenty of ATMs in Agadir. The closest ATMs you will find in Aourir.
We do not recommend you to bring Traveller’s cheques. They cannot be exchanged at the airport or locally, and there are only a few places in Agadir that will change them (at a disadvantageous exchange rate).

WHICH TIME ZONE HAS MOROCCO?

The time zone in Morocco is GMT (Casablanca).

IS THERE INTERNET?

There is free wifi available in the accommodations. There are also cafés and restaurants in the area with free wifi.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?

In Morocco you will find over 300 days of sunshine a year. Between the months November to February there is a small chance of rain. The winter months are famous of their waves. During this time of the year you will have the chance to surf in some of the best waves of the world. The summer months from April to October are full of sunny days. You can find small to medium waves the best time for beginners to start surfing.
The water temperature in winter is 16-20°C, in summer it is around 20°C maybe little bit warmer. We recommend you to surf with a 3/2mm full suit in the wintertime and in the summertime it is possible to surf with a shorty. But it is your personal choice and depends on your tolerance. Most of our surf school wetsuits are 3/2 full suits.

DO YOU RENT SURF EQUIPMENT?

We offer lots of great boards for hire (Softboards, Epoxy Boards and Polyester Boards). Please let us know about your wishes. We offer also wetsuits for hire.

WHAT FACILITIES ARE THERE LOCALLY?

There are small corner shops selling water, soda, crisps, fruit, vegetables and other essentials. For cigarettes, you must go to a Tabac. There are pharmacies and surf shops as well. You can buy Moroccan handcrafts locally as well.

WHAT FACILITIES ARE THERE IN AGADIR?

The city of Agadir is a 20-minute drive from Aourir. There you can find everything you would find in any European city. There are banks, ATMs, shops, supermarkets, souks, hammams, car hire services, pharmacies, a hospital, restaurants (Fast Food, Indian, Sushi, Moroccan etc.), cafés, bars, nightclubs and even a Pub for those who feel to go out for a drink at night and much more!

HOW SHOULD I DRESS?

Morocco is a liberal Muslim country, and men and women are welcome to wear shorts and t-shirts. Swimsuits and bikinis are expected on the beach, but nudity is not. Please be respectful to the local people and be discreet when changing. For women, it is advisable when walking around town or the city not to wear anything too revealing. For men we recommend to cover their upper body while walking in the street and driving car. It can be cold at night, and trousers and jumpers are needed particularly in mid-winter, so we suggest to bring some warm clothes too.

CAN I DRINK THE TAP WATER?

Tap water is fine for washing and brushing teeth, but we do not recommend that you drink large quantities. Bottled mineral water is cheap (5 Dirhams) and available everywhere.

I AM VEGETARIAN. DO YOU CATER SPECIAL FOOD?

Let us know in advance if you have any special requirements, and we will do our best to make sure we have what you need. Any vegetarians need to tell us if they also exclude milk and cheese, honey or eggs from their diets.

DO YOU SUPPLY TOWELS?

Bath towels but not beach towels are available for stays at our surf camp the accommodations. You will need to bring your own beach towels.

WHAT ABOUT ALCOHOLIC DRINKS IN A MUSLIM COUNTRY?

Although Islam forbids the consumption of alcohol by Muslims, and alcohol cannot be sold or served in the towns we operate in, it can be bought in Agadir. Note that stores stop selling alcohol at 8pm.

WHAT ABOUT THE EVENINGS?

It’s really up to you. You can have dinner at the accommodations and relax or you take mint tea in the village and check out the local scene. It is also easy to go to Agadir for nightlife, with possibilities for dinner, drinks and dancing.

WHAT VOLTAGE AND PLUGS DO YOU USE?

Morocco is on 220 volts with European two-pin round plugs. Please bring a plug adaptor, if you expect you will need one.

HOW DO I CALL MOROCCO?

The international country code for Morocco is +212.

IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE IN MOROCCO?

If you are renting a car, please ensure you have a valid EU driving license that shows you have been driving for at least one year. The law insists that you always carry your license and car hire documents with you when driving in Morocco. Seat belts must be worn at all times and mobile phone use while driving is a finable offense. Police and gendarmerie checkpoints are common along the routes and you must slow down or even stop and wait for them to wave you through. Watch out for police hiding with speed radar. They will stop you and fine you an on-the-spot payment. In Morocco, as in Europe driving is on the right. The main roads in the area are relatively new though are generally narrower and may sometimes have bumps and potholes, especially after periods of rain.

WHAT ABOUT MEDICAL CARE?

No vaccinations are required for visitors to Morocco and anti-malarial precautions are not necessary.
We have first aid equipment along with staff trained in administering first aid. In case of an emergency, there are hospitals and clinics in Agadir.
Medical charges will apply according to the treatment received so make sure you have travel insurance before you arrive. Pharmacies in Morocco are plentiful and carry pretty much anything you might need, with lots of medications available without a doctor’s prescription.

WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE?

It is your responsibility to obtain adequate travel insurance before your trip. Everyone booking a holiday with Pro Surf Morocco must have full travel insurance. Pro Surf Morocco accepts no responsibility for loss, theft, damage or injury to persons or property during their stay.
