Summary
A small surf camp that feels like family
Tucked away in a traditional, laid-back Balinese village on the west coast, near a black-sand beach, Seaside Tribe has a handful of cozy private rooms in a tropical garden, surf coaches who meet you where you are, and a tribe to share good times with. We're family-run and small by choice, with a maximum of 10 guests at a time.
You learn in real ocean waves, not knee-deep in the shallows. Beginners make steady progress with 2:1 coaching and detailed video review, intermediates improve in mellow waves, and advanced surfers find some spicier peaks nearby.
Our package is built around surfing every day, with plenty of room to recharge. Dinner is served 4 times a week, so you can also try the local restaurants or take an evening for yourself, and we keep the rest of the program light. Want two sessions a day? That's possible at extra cost.
Our highlight is the Tribe beach BBQ, usually about every two weeks. Just ask our surf guides when the next one is. In between, there are movie nights, board games, massages and hammocks in the garden, and you're welcome to join our kitchen team to learn a recipe.
Join the Tribe if you...
- are a first-time beginner or intermediate surfer looking to build confidence
- like a social vibe without the crowds
- are curious about real Bali: village life, the quieter coast and connecting with locals
- prefer early surf days and chilled beach BBQs over party nights
Maybe not for you if...
- you're chasing as many famous surf spots as possible
- you're after a luxury, resort-style escape
- geckos and the occasional ant would ruin your day
Start any day, stay from 2 nights. Hard to leave, most say.

ABOUT THE SURF CAMP
LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS
In Kedungu Beginners start in a protected inlet with real ocean waves, while the main peaks offer mellow walls for intermediates and punchier days for advanced surfers. Kedungu is also less crowded. We almost always surf at our home break in Kedungu or at nearby spots in the area, and only very rarely drive further away, when the conditions here just don't allow it.
CAMP CHARACTER
A tiny, family-run surf camp with a warm, community feel. With 5 rooms and a maximum of 10 guests, you quickly become part of the Tribe. Balinese craftsmanship meets Western comfort, and a retired fishing boat lives on in our pillars and furniture. Solo travelers, couples, friends and families with children from 8 are all welcome. Most guests are in their mid-20s to mid-40s.
CAMP OPERATOR
Seaside Tribe is run by Adi, a Balinese from the Kedungu area, with his wife Irene from Switzerland working behind the scenes. After nearly a decade of guiding surf students around Bali, they built the camp with a local team and welcomed the first guests in 2018. Our local surf guides, housekeeping and kitchen team are part of the family.

MORE INFO, HOW TO GET THERE & FAQ
SURF CONDITIONS
Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots
Kedungu Main Peak: an easy-going reef break with lefts and rights, great for longboards and fish on small days, with playful walls on bigger swells. Kedungu Playground: a shallow inlet near the shore, sheltered from strong currents, for first take-offs and for intermediates when other waves are too big. Spicier peaks for advanced surfers are a short walk or ride away. Only on the rare days when Kedungu isn't working do we move to other spots, which can even include the south or east of Bali.
Seasonal conditions
Dry season (June to September): consistent swells, mostly offshore winds and plenty of sun. Shoulder season (April, May, October, November): mellow, glassy mornings with small to medium swells and the odd bigger pulse. Rainy season (December to March): more variable, with some wet or windy days, but still good waves and fewer people. In July and August the water can be slightly fresher, so a shorty or light wetsuit top helps if you feel the cold easily.
Crowd factor and local people
Kedungu is mellow and in general less crowded than Canggu, and in the rainy season there are often even fewer people in the lineup. Our surf guides are all locals and know the spots inside out.
SURROUNDINGS / REGION
