LOCATION AND SURF CONDITIONS

Peru is a country of waves, constant swells throughout the year and from different directions make this area highly appreciated by surfers,that is why you can surf every day 1 to 2m waves. On days of intense swell there are spots that can exceed 6m in height, but even on these days we can find places for beginners and have fun. There is usually little wind in the area which favors surfing.
Surf Camp Peru Focus is placed faced to the ocean in Playa Arica Beach town, has a strategic location, just 35 km south from the city of Lima ( 30´ by car) and also very close to the towns of Lurin and Punta Hermosa ( 10 ' by Car). This makes it easy for you to get food, clothing, etc and all the basic services you need, but the most important thing is that you can find several types of waves  for beguinners and advanced surfers in only 10 km of coast.

CAMP CHARACTER 
Surf Camp Peru Focus, has a family atmosphere, is a quiet and relaxing place for small groups, with a current capacity of 4 people. For us that is important to provide personalized attention to each guest. The main language is Spanish, but we can also speak  English. There is no specific age at the camp , anyone is welcome.

CAMP OPERATOR

Luis Vásquez is the owner of Surf Camp Peru Focus,he has been surfing and manufactoring Focus surfboards for over 40 years. He always wanted to live outside the city so he moved to live on Arica Beach the last 23 years. Having his house facing the sea, he thought about opening his doors and receiving visitors who like the sea and surfing. This is how in the process we have made very good friends with several of them.

ACCOMMODATION TYPES

---

You will accommodated in a 30m2 apartment with a balcony overlooking the sea and has independent entrance and exit to the beach. It is located on the third floor and also has a view to the garden. It consist of a double bed, 2 single beds arranged in a cabin. The room has a living with furniture for reading and resting, has its own bathroom with hot water. It has a small kitchen to facilitate preparing food on your own. Towels, soap and toilet paper are provided. On the first floor facing the beach, a large sand terrace with a barbecue area is also available.

CATERING

---

A healthy breakfast is offered that includes coffe, milk or oatmeal, eggs or cheese, bread and natural fresh fruit juice, If you do not require this service, please let us know. Self catering is possible, you can buy your own food (1 kg of fruit or yogurt cost about $2 to $3) and prepare your meals using the kitchen provided. Or eating directly at restaurants in the area ($4 menú or $12 per plate depending on the restaurants).

SURF COURSE DETAILS

---

Surf classes are individual or up to 4 people. We think that in small groups learning  process is more efective. We offer an instructor up to 4 people.  

Our beginner program includes the following items: getting to know the equipment and surfboards, knowing the sea, how to row, how to rest on the board, how to catch the wave and surf, security measures. For intermediate level the program is : how to obtain speed, how to do basic maneuvers, how to improve your style, knowing the designs of the boards to better choose your equipment.

 Each session lasts aprox. 2 ½ hours in total, including transportation time to the surf spot. In water it is up to 1 hour depending your physical condition and waves.

The price for course is $60/1 up to 4 persons.

You can also have the course without staying in our camp.

SURF MATERIALS

We provide fiberglass boards, leash, wetsuits (according to availability),wax, local transport if required, instructor. Participant must bring their change clothes , towel, sunscreen, and drinking water if desired. Preferably bring your own wetsuit. Also you can rent board and wetsuit ( $10  each).

OTHER ACTIVITIES<

In free time it is possible to watch movies on tv or play ping pong (free), ride a bike ($5), or we can organize visits to nearby archaeological sites and museums ( $20 only transport/group) , as well as trekking through the hills of the valley ($25 transport and guide/group). You can also play soccer on the beach for free.

SURF CONDITIONS

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots

The main spot is in front of the accomodation, it is a powerful wave that breaks to the right and left over the reef. On the right side there are several sandy beach breaks  with tubulars waves, especially good with small swells. In 10 km around  you will find many spots to surf with a wide variety of quality waves. This area is the best surf zone in the south of Lima.

Seasonal conditions

The water has a temperature of approximately 18° , somewhat colder in winter and somewhat warmer in summer. The avarage air temperature is 22° and can reach 30 in summer. Is not a windy location and you will find consistent waves all year long. Normally you will need a 2.5mm wetsuit. 

Crowd factor and local people

Surf is easy here, beacuse people are friendly if you respect your turn. During the week you will find spots empty of surfers. Only in summer, on the weekend we have crowd.

SURROUNDINGS / REGION

---

Characterization of surroundings/region

The central coast of Peru is desert type with green areas only in the valleys where rivers descend from tje Andes. We are located 28 km from Miraflores touristic district and 40 km from Lima center. The international  airport is 50 km north. We are 20' from  Pachacamac archaeological site and Museum. The typical food is deliciouds and the local peolpe are fiendly. We will give you all the help in the local language for a good development. The currency is the "Sol" with an exchange rate of 3.75 soles per dollar. With $30 or 40 dollars a day you can eat and move around without problems. There are medical centers nearby for any emergency. It is still good if you have your own insurance.

Activities and facilities

Near the camp you have ATMs,wineries,minimarkets, restauarants and a few minutes away you have cinemas, shopping center, discos (summer) and bars. surfing events are also frequent in the area. Customized tours are possible as well.

Ways to get to the camp

You can get the camp by taxi or public bus. Or in any case we can pick up you from airport or from some point in Lima, if you confirm in advance. Travel time from the airport is 1 1/2 hours  ( $50) and from the city approximately 45 minutes ($25)..

Important details

The cost for public transfers is around $1,some times you need 2 or 3 conections depending where you are in Lima. By bus take more time to reach the camp.
