Flanked by two world class surf spot which is pitstop and bankvaults, makes Yanto’s Place is the perfect location for all the guests that want to spend their surf time in mentawai islands. As we all known, pitstop and bankvaults  located in middle of play ground area. Play ground itself consists plenty of world class surf spot that can be reached in minutes. From Yanto’s place to nipussi only 10 minutes walking, to pit stop only 20 minutes walking, ebay 30 minutes walking and beng beng 1 hour walking. We only suggesting for our guest  to walk only if they want to go to nipussi and pit stop by walking, the rest we suggested using boat to get to the surf spot.

short history (how it all began...)

Becoming the first generation of local mentawai that surf and also the true living legend of local mentawai makes Yanto is one of the most experienced surf guides in the Mentawai Islands. In the 90's he was already there discovering surf spots with the pioneers of the Mentawai. Yanto does a great job as surf guide as he really knows the conditions and  he is able to get you to the right places with low crowds.

Now, yanto and his experienced team running yanto’s place with indigenous hospitality of true native mentawai. This kind of personal touch services surely makes all the guest who stay at yanto’s place experiencing the true mentawai local atmosphere during their time in mentawai islands.

SURF CONDITIONS

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots

short characterization;

Pit Stops
This is the right off the peak at E-Bay. Usually a playful right that can offer some cover-ups off the take-off, but mostly a high performance waves with air sections at the end. Ends in a sandy channel. reef break ,distances : 15 – 20 minutes walking, 2 minutes by boat from yanto’s place

E-Bay
This is a hollow left that barrels off the take-off with a short wall down the line. A great option when a lot of swell is hitting. reef break ,distances : 25 – 30 minutes walking, 3 minutes by boat from yanto’s place

Bank Vaults
A heavy righthander that barrels and spits. Usually larger than most spots in the area. Watch out for clean-up sets. reef break ,distances : 20 – 25 minutes walking, 3 minutes by boat from yanto’s place

Rifles
One of the best waves in the Mentawai. A very long righthander that wraps around the other side of the same island as No Kanduis. Rarely makeable from start to finish, but even just from section to section you can get rides up to 100 meters or longer. Nice and hollow once it’s a few feet overhead, but usually more sectiony at smaller sizes. reef break ,distances : 20 – 25 minutes by boat from yanto’s place

do locals share the waves with others : yes , but do not drop the locals, they will get mad easily if you drop them.

Characterization of surroundings/region

general information about region : remote islands located on the most western part of Indonesia, quiet, ocean view and very relaxing. The nearest village is muara siberut which is can be reach around 2 hours by boat from yanto’s place.

culture, local people, customs- helpful language skills : the locals are very friendly and they use their own mentawaian language to communicate each other, some of them are very good English speaking people. The unique culture of mentawaian is one of the authentic culture in Indonesia that still exist until presents time.

Ways to get to the camp

Took an airplane to padang airport tnasfer to padang harbor take ferry to cross the mentawai strait. From siberut take 2 hour boat to reach the camp.
