Surf Las Flores and Punta Mango

East Coast
The newly discovered surfing territory of El Salvador, offers epic point breaks in rural area, enjoy the nature and get away from civilization, admire beautiful scenery landscapes and of course get incredible waves. Stay at Hotel Miraflores in front of Las Flores Point break or at Hotel Los Mangos overlooking Punta Mango, both hotels offering a mind-blowing view to the surf break. Both hotels are great for small groups. (Maximum capacity 17 guests). Las Flores is a long right point break with sand bottom and good barrel sections at low tide, Punta Mango is right point break with cobble stone bottom and tubular shape. There are many spots in between waiting for you, let us show you. The Waves

Las Flores.
This is a beautiful sand bottom point break full of palm trees in the background. The wave starts breaking next to a rock in a fast and hollow section and keeps breaking for a couple of hundred yards for more speed more barreling sections on the way to the shore. It’s a fun high-performance wave for medium to experienced surfers. The tides play an important factor on these waves, breaking with tubular sections especially at low tide, expect some currents at low tide.

Punta Mango
This is a cobble stone right point break, surrounded by beautiful mountains located in one of El Salvador’s more remote areas. Punta Mango breaks with a nice tube in most of its sections. This is a paradise for those who like to get barreled. This is the east coast version of the perfect wave.

Los Mangos beach break.
A surf break basically reserved for those who are staying at Los Mangos Hotel, undiscovered until we built the hotel, fun beach break that can get fun & hollow in medium tide, great for surfers of all levels and surf schools

La Ventana.
A nice beach break for smaller days and beginner surfers, pure fun in 2 to 5 feet swells range. At La Ventana beach the mountains meet the ocean in the shape if a window making this beach a nice spot to get away from the crowds.

La Vaca
A Fast and hollow wave, it offers a shorter ride than Las Flores. It Starts breaking next to the rocks over sand bottom, breaking into a small rocky bay, especially good for 2 to 5 feet swell.

El Toro
Fast hollow point break with sand bottom, it has 2 main sections, the outside section breaking next to a huge volcanic rock and in front of an impressive volcanic cliff. The inside section breaks towards a nice sandy beach for about 100 yards, it’s hard to connect both sections. It needs at least 3 to 4 feet swell to start breaking. This break is for experienced surfers only.

El Bongo
This is another right-hand point break breaking over the sand, breaking with 6ft + south west swell, it’s a bit mushier and slower than the surrounding waves at the east coast but it’s fun and less crowded than the rest of the point breaks.

El Cuco and Miraflores beach breaks
Slow and mushy beach breaks, going left and right, great for beginners, good for surfing in a fish, fun board or long board. It gets especially good on high tide with 2 to 4ft swell.

Surf La Libertad
West Coast

La Libertad
La Libertad is located just 45 minutes away from El Salvador’s International airport and 30 minutes away from the Salvadoran Capital city. The “state” of La Libertad has many surf breaks along the coast most of them are cobblestone point breaks, like world class Punta Roca, there is also a variety of river mouths and many miles of good quality beach break. Your guide knows all the breaks and will advise you to find the surf break that is best for you since there are many surf spots to choose from, like Conchalio, K59, Sunzal, El Zonte, Mizata and many others… COME SURF WHITH US!

The Waves

Punta Roca.
Perfection is the more suitable word to describe this wave, probably, one of the best right points breaks in the world, breaking on a rocky bottom it gets hollow all the way, giving you the chance to get really long barrels, and to feel the power and speed at its best. Look out for some big boulders in the outside section; booties are of great use in this spot. You will find more surfers on the line up here, but this is a wave that you will never forget.

Conchalío.
A powerful beach break, great for tube riding, its sand bottom makes this wave very hollow. Breaking better at high tide, this is one El Salvador finest beach breaks. Surfing Conchalío from 4 to 6 feet and getting spited out of those barrels is definitely an epic experience.

Sunzal.
This is the longest rides around; along with Punta Roca el Sunzal point break can hold the biggest swells on La Libertad area. The ride is about 200mts long, it’s a fun, hot dog wave for beginners to advanced surfers. Some say it’s a long boarder’s type of wave, but it does have some really good sections for short board or a fish. You will find more crowd here than in the surrounding breaks because is very consistent and good for beginners.

El Zonte. 
This is another right point break, really good on an 2 to 5 feet swell range it’s a fun rippable wave, it’s guarded by mountains and an impressive cliff so its protected from wind by it. You can also find a left wave in the other side of the point at the river mouth. This left wave is not long but can give fun rides; it breaks nice and clean in the 3 to 5 feet range of swell.

K59 and K61.
Both right points, with cobblestone bottom and some barreling sections at the inside, it gets especially good on 4 feet + swells. These spots are less crowded with just a few locals on the water.

La Bocana.
It’s the river mouth of Rio Grande, it breaks left and right. The left wave has a fast take off zone, it´s a very powerful with a lot of water moving, it has barrels in the inside section as it gets shallow and closer to the rocks at the bottom. There is some localism on this wave for being the only consistent left wave on the country. The right wave is also very fast and hollow but the ride is shorter and even rockier than the left wave.

Mizata.
The last point break on the west end of the “state of La Libertad”, Mizata beach has a couple of different waves, an A frame beach break that starts breaking over a sand bar that forms over a deep water rock;  a river mouth that starts breaking over cobble stones and ends on a sandy beach this is a hollow and fast left wave that can get you barreled before you even know; there is also a right point break with cobble stone bottom, this wave is powerful and fast with a couple of hollow sections  its better a low tide; the fourth wave at Mizata beach is a Slab, this last wave needs a big swell and the right tide, needless to say that this slab is not a beginners wave,  all these four waves are at walking distance from each other, you will find one working better that the other depending on the conditions, but in general this beach is good with small to medium size swells.

East Coast
The sandy beaches at the more remote east coast are perfect for learning to surf. Also the long coast lines with beach breaks. From November to March waves are off shore, 1 to 4 feet high and break more gentile without many currents. For more advanced surfers great time to taste the point break and learn to ride the waves there. Our instructors are very professional, bilingual and ISA certified. Basic but comfortable accommodations at Miraflores or more luxurious at Hotel Los Mangos..

West coast
The more rockey beaches at the west coast are perfect for learning to surf. From November to March waves are off shore, 1 to 4 feet high and break more gentile without many currents. For more advanced surfers great time to taste the point break and learn to ride the waves there, best one is Sunzal point break which is easy mushy wave. Our instructors are very professional, bilingual and ISA certified. Basic but comfortable accommodations at Eco de Mar or more luxurious at Hotel Casa de Mar. The town of El Tunco and around Sunzal you will find several restaurants, bars, nightlife and other activities.

Practical tips
Entrance requirements: Valid passport, and according to the country of origin, sometimes is necessary a tourist visa or tourist card that cost $10 and it’s normally valid for 90 days.

Communications: Telephone IDD available. Country code: 503. IDD is available to Europe, USA and certain international ports. Outgoing international code: 00
Mobile Phone: GSM 850, 900, 1900 and 1950 networks.
Fax and Internet: Hotels have facilities. Internet access is easily available throughout El Salvador, as well as WI-FI points.
