We are based on the south side of the epic local spot « Obidos Lagoon » close to Peniche and Baleal and just a short drive from Lisbon. This place is Portugal's kitesurfing heaven! Our kitesurfing school is located on a spot that boasts epic conditions for novices learning to kitesurf, while the ocean on the other side of the estuary offers perfectly peeling waves for surfing. Take your pick! Thanks to the local council’s continuous efforts to maintain the natural integrity of the landscape, this area not only remains clean and natural, but also quiet. The waters are not crowded and there is plenty of space within which to attempt to progress your kitesurfing.

Fueled by a strong passion for kiteboarding, our professional team certified by the International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO) and Portuguese Sailing Federation (FPV) guarantees the quickest, safest and most enjoyable way of learning to kitesurf in Portugal - after all, it's what we are all about! ABOUT THE KITE CAMP ÓBIDOS LAGOON:
- Available all year-round (the main season is April-October).
- The houses are located in the village, close to the beach, restaurants and kite spots.
- You can easily walk to the kite spots. A 15/20min scenic walk will bring you there.
- Enjoy the wildness and the amazing scenery: the lagoon area has beautiful beaches and trails to walk and cycle around.

Kite Control is your premium kitesurf school in Portugal. At Kite Control, we take proper care of our student's individual goals, expectations, and concerns through our custom-tailored kitesurfing programs:
- Private Kiteboarding Lessons: learn at your own pace while your dedicated instructor focuses on your own goals.
- Semi-private kiteboarding lessons: learn with a friend and watch each other ride while you progress to the next level.

Kitesurf lesson 1 - fly the kite:
- Kite equipment and wind theory: get familiar with setting up the kite and learn how to check the weather forecast.
- Know how to use the control bar and the safety systems.
- Learn how to fly the kite in the water, master the different flying techniques and understand the wind window.
- Learn how to perform the self-rescue (technique to bring you back safely to the shore in case you have a problem in the water).
- Learn how to pack the equipment properly.

Kitesurf lesson 2 - body drag:
- Learn how to launch and land the kite safely.
- Learn how to walk with the kite.
- Learn the different body dragging techniques (drag your body through the water using the power of the kite). This will help you to work on your balance and really understand the power of the kite.
- Through this lesson, you will also learn how to get back to the board in deep water (the board will sometimes come off your feet during the exercises and you will need to retrieve it using a body dragging technique) .

Kitesurf lesson 3 - water start:
- Water start theory.
- Learn how to place the board on your feet while keeping the kite stable in the air.
- Learn how to keep your position in the water, board on, and get ready for your first water start (the most wanted step by all the students).
- Master the different water start techniques.
- Get your first rides.

Kitesurf lesson 4 - ride the board:
- Learn how to ride over longer distances.
- Learn how to keep your balance and control the riding speed.
- Learn how to perform a controlled stop.
- Learn how to keep power in your kite whilst riding.

Kitesurf lesson 5 - ride upwind:
- Learn how to ride upwind and you will never have to walk with the kite anymore to get back to where you started your session. Riding upwind is the key to becoming an independent kitesurfer.
- Learn about the navigation rules.
- Learn how to change direction.
- You will be ready to go kiting on your own, safely.

We teach in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

You need to bring a bathing suit to wear underneath the wetsuit, a towel, some water, some sunscreen and a pair of sunglasses - we provide everything else.

To rent equipment you have to be an independent kiteboarder!

The tranquil inland waters are home to a variety of wildlife which can be enjoyed from one of the scenic walks. On the southern part of the lagoon estuary, the Bom Sucesso beach (where we are based) offers a wildlife trail accompanied with a spectacular panoramic scenery from atop of the cliffs. We can organize other group activities like surfing, mountain biking and Yoga at extra cost.

Breaks directly at the main spot and at nearby spots

Spot 1: The Obidos Lagoon
The estuary is the well-known kite spot in the lagoon. Two launches are possible. One from Bom Successo beach (the safest one due to its wide sandy area) and one from Foz de Arelho. This Spot is opened to kitesurfing from September 15th to June 15th. It's forbidden to kitesurf on the left side of the red line during the beach season (June 15th - September 15th). The waist deep waters make that spot the most suitable for the progression of beginners learning how to kite. You will find that spot at the end of a short sandy road accessible with any vehicle.

Spot 2: Moledo Beach
Moledo beach is a spacious, long sandy beach with consistent wind and strong thermals, making this the ideal spot for all levels in anyone’s kitesurfing journey. Here we offer private kitesurfing lessons, semi-private kitesurfing lessons, equipment rental, advanced coaching, and even wave riding coaching. In addition to having waves to play on, there are also various flat water areas towards the North side of the beach that can accommodate absolute beginners. It’s a win-win for all!

Seasonal conditions

Obidos Lagoon:
During the summer months the northerly winds consistently deliver excellent kitesurfing conditions on a daily basis, providing calm, quiet waters on which to ride. These kitesurf spots are often only a short drive from the small but vibrant towns (such as nearby Obidos) that have become synonymous with Portugal’s poetic landscape, rich culture, and charming local customs. The inside of the lagoon offers great kitesurfing conditions during the summer. The Nortada (Northerly wind blowing on the west coast of Portugal during the summer) is reinforced by the nearby hills. This spot is opened to kitesurfing year-round.

Moledo Beach:
The main kitesurfing season is from May to October. There are certain peaks and sandbanks at Moledo beach which provide waves almost all year round.

Characterization of surroundings/region

Obidos:
In the small, historic town of Obidos (an hour drive north of the capital Lisbon) one could get lost wandering the cobblestone streets, gazing into the distant past as they both taste and take part in the old customs and traditions still very much evident in Portuguese culture today. Coastal towns like Obidos, near Peniche, offer the world-class homegrown food & wine.

Moledo:
Compared to the bustling town of Viana do Castelo, Moledo is a charming village which still has all the necessary amenities, and more. The beach has facilities such as parking, toilets, bars and restaurants - the perfect setting to soak up the sunset after an epic day of kitesurfing! For hikers and bikers, the various scenic nature trails in the area provide for some serious adventure. Take your pick from the renowned Ecovia coastal bike trail, to the Serra D’arga and surrounding nature trails. If this isn’t enough, there is yet birdwatching, canyoning, and paragliding.

You can choose between one surf lesson or a pack of surf lessons (1 lesson= 30€, 3 lessons= 85€, 5 lessons= 130€, 10 lessons= 200€). The prices include all the equipment needed (such as surfboard and wetsuit), insurance and personalized instruction by certified instructors. The instructor will take into consideration your level and goals. You have the chance to take the advantage of a unique location since our school is surrounded by all the best spots in the area. Allow 2h30 for the activity.

Book your surf lesson with transfers included and do not worry. We will organize everything accordingly to your schedule. Allow 4h30 to 5h for the activity and the transfers. The price also includes all the equipment needed (such as surfboard and wetsuit), insurance and personalized instruction by certified instructors. The instructor will take into consideration your level and goals. You have the chance to take the advantage of a unique location since our school is surrounded by all the best spots in the area.
