Baleal is unique because of the peninsula which means that waves come from two different directions. This means that there are more befinner-friendly waves on one side, and more advanced ones on the other side.

The best accommodation for your surf trip in Portugal

During your surf trip in Portugal, you’ll stay in bright, spacious villas and apartments just a stone’s throw from the beach, with several surf spots right around the corner. There are always shared lounge areas, both indoors and outdoors – perfect for hanging out, relaxing, and sharing the day’s experiences with other guests. When you want some time to yourself, there are plenty of quiet spots where you can unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet. We offer rooms in different sizes. Families always get their own room, while if you’re traveling alone or with a friend, you’ll share a room – something many appreciate, as it often creates a warm and relaxed sense of community.

We serve breakfast everyday, a delicious breakfast buffet with a freshly baked bread, scrambled eggs, delicious fruits, coffee and so on. We also offer a dinner package, which is one of our guests favorites. With this package, you get to enjoy four delightful dinners during the week. The dinner starts with appetizers, followed by a homemade main course, and finishes with dessert and coffee. On the other evenings, you can explore and try the local restaurants in the village.

Learn to surf in Portugal

Portugal is where many people go to catch their first wave. Here, the surf vibe blends with adventure, laughter, and great food – making your trip truly unforgettable. Because surfing is our greatest passion, we’ve set up camp at one of the world’s top surf destinations! Baleal, located on Portugal’s stunning coastline, is a surf paradise that attracts both beginners and experienced surfers. Don’t be surprised if you spot surfers strolling down the street in wetsuits.

Perfect surf camp for beginners

Many of our guests are first-time surfers who have never been on a board before. We make sure you feel safe, supported, and confident in the water – and before you know it, you’ll be up catching waves. Our lessons in Portugal are tailored to your level, and we keep the groups small so every surfer gets the coaching they need.

If you already have some surf experience, our instructors will help you progress further, working on technique and more advanced maneuvers like bottom turns and cutbacks.

Magical sunrise surf

Start your day in the most magical way, surfing at sunrise. As the sky changes color and the sun rises over the ocean, you paddle out together with our instructors and catch the first waves of the day. After the session, freshly brewed coffee and a warm Pastel de Nata will be waiting for you on the beach. Our surf photographer will be there to capture the moments so you can remember the feeling long after.

Boat Trip to Paradise Beaches

Our most popular excursion takes you to the paradise island of Berlengas – a small archipelago off the coast of Peniche, known for its crystal-clear blue waters and stunning nature. Explore the island’s caves on a glass-bottom boat and visit the historic fort for a journey back in time. Just 30 minutes from Baleal by boat from Peniche harbor, you can enjoy this beautiful natural scenery. If you’re lucky, you might even spot dolphins!

MEDIEVAL TOWN OF ÓBIDOS

Just 20 minutes from Baleal awaits an enchanting medieval town full of charm and history. Here you can stroll through narrow streets lined with charming houses and colorful flowers. Enjoy the beautiful view from the city walls and shop for local crafts and delicacies in the small shops.

BIGGEST WAVES IN NAZARÉ

About 50 minutes by car from Baleal awaits Praia do Norte, where enormous waves roll in from November to March. Of course, there is more to offer here than just waves. Explore the lighthouse, which is also a museum for big wave surfing, stroll around the beautiful square, and enjoy the breathtaking views of cliffs and beaches.

Catch waves and sunshine in Portugal

Baleal offers warm summers (22–25?°C) and mild winters with over 14°C in the shade. The fresh Atlantic air creates a pleasant climate year-round, and the ocean temperature only varies by 5–6 degrees between summer and winter.   Thanks to the sheltered bays of the Baleal , there are almost always surfable waves – even when it’s windy. We surf all year round in wetsuits, so the weather and season don’t matter much. Unlike Sweden, the days here are long even in winter. The sun often sets after 5 PM, making it feel like a full day from start to finish. The light, warmth, and ocean make Baleal an energy boost all year long.

Our surf camp is located in Baleal, part of the famous Peniche surf peninsula. The area offers a variety of beach breaks with sandy bottoms, making it a safe and forgiving place to learn to surf while still offering quality waves for more experienced surfers.

Several surf spots are located within walking distance or a short drive from the camp. Popular nearby breaks include Baleal Beach, Cantinho da Baía and the world-class waves around Peniche such as Supertubos.

 

Because the peninsula faces different directions, we can usually find good waves regardless of wind or swell direction. This flexibility makes Baleal one of the most consistent surf areas in Europe.

WAYS TO GET TO THE CAMP

From Lisbon it takes about 1 hour to reach Baleal by car. We offer help organizing transfers from the airport directly to the camp for a smooth arrival. Distance Lisbon Airport - Baleal: approximately 95 km.
